Falling Down Brown Cow
Author: Slightly adapted from Big Bad Breakfast by John Currence
- 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream
- 2 ounces bourbon
- 2 small pinches of ground cinnamon
- Coca-cola, to float
Recipe is slightly adapted from Big Bad Breakfast by John Currence. So, in the American South, where chef-author John Currence calls home (Mississippi, to be exact), we call putting Coke over vanilla ice cream a Brown Cow (this is the nomenclature I was raised with, too). Others call it a Coke Float. Either way, we’re adding bourbon! I only changed the ratios on Currence’s recipe: he writes it as one serving, but I wanted a smaller portion. So I divided his recipe into two rocks glasses for two people, and I’m really happy with how it turned out. It’s enough to feel like you indulged, but not enough to get you tipsy or in a food coma. I made a point to source authentic Mexican cola, with the real cane sugar. I prefer the taste, but of course, regular Coca-Cola is fine too. Enjoy!
