Welcome to Sunday Morning Coffee! What a week. Alabama *might* elect a Democratic Senator, many Republicans are actually defending a pedophile, Thanksgiving is early this year (eeek!) and I made a chai butternut squash bundt cake and forgot to put eggs in the batter! Facepalm. No matter, let’s get down to it, shall we?
Speaking of Alabama… Grown Men Don’t “Date” Teenagers, They Abuse Them – “… the GOP needs to at least pretend to care about girls more than they care about appearances. This is more than just putting party before country. This is putting party before punishing pedophilia.”
I Believe Juanita – As much as I vehemently detest the classic narcissistic tactic Trump and the conservative media love so much – Whataboutism – I too think Dems need a reckoning on their support of Bill Clinton.
When It Comes To Sexual Harassment Claims, Whose Side Is Human Resources On? – With all the sexual assault and harassment accusations in the news lately, it was inevitable that workplace sexual harassment would become a hot topic. It’s definitely worth discussing the problems and the future solutions that are already coming into play.
John Boehner Unchained – A fascinating profile of former House Speaker John Boehner, post retirement. It’s … unfiltered. And … really, really illuminating.
A Psychologist Says Early Christmas Music Is Unhealthy – Okay, so this is based on one opinion, not any actual scientific research, but my confirmation bias is totally doing the happy dance right now.
Ribs For Your Pleasure, From Head Smokeboy Drew Magary – If, in the future, you ever hear me using the phrase “rib condom” you’ll know where I heard it first.
Okay, so this random guy on Twitter couldn’t sleep one night and decided to pass the time by giving letter grades to all the current species of fox. Not the television channel, but actual foxes. You know, animals. I nearly fell off a restaurant bar stool laughing. I would really like the privilege of walking around in his brain for just a few minutes sometime.
Turkey is obviously on the brain this week, and to date, this is my absolute favorite Thanksgiving turkeys I’ve ever, ever made. Or eaten, for that matter. Michael Symon’s Cider-Glazed Turkey with Lager Gravy – try it and be amazed.
I am an enormous fan of pumpkin pie, the classic will always do, but I’m both intrigued by and apprehensive about Pumpkin Slab Pie. It’s interesting and beautiful, but will I miss that deep forkful of earthy custard? Sometimes slab pie seems too thin for certain applications. I will be open-minded though!
Pumpkin Cornbread. I make this every Thanksgiving week without fail, ever since I discovered such a thing exists. I have no words for how easy and delicious it is.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
XO, Julie
